The automatic detection of events is an important problem in the realm of streaming data applications. With regards to social network platforms the starting idea is to identify closely-related (in a semantic context) messages from streams of user posts. Nevertheless, the seminar also includes methods that operate on a higher-level of abstraction, i.e. considering general multi-variate streams. This seminar has multiple goals: On one hand, it will enhance the students' abilities to comprehend, explain and reproduce state-of-the-art research. On the other hand, it serves as a playground for developing analytical thinking and excercising academic criticism.
