Projects & cooperations / Completed Projects:
Knowledge Sharing and Reuse Across Media (X-Media)
(March 2006 - Feb 2010; EU Integrated Project, FP6 IST)
The project addresses knowlegde management in complex distributed environments. Methods and technologies for a broad common usage an re-use of distributed knowledge are researched, developed and implemented. ... [more]
Machine Learning on the Grid
(since December 2005)
As part of the Black Forest Grid Initiative (BFG) that aims at developing a grid infrastructure in a bottom-up style by joining efforts of several groups, in this project machine learning methods are deployed to the Grid. ... [more]

Cooperation project with
MENTASYS GmbH
(since July, 2002):
In the context of the cooperation project with MENTASYS GmbH and Institute for Decision Theory and Management Sciene, University of Karlsruhe, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gaul we investigate recommender systems in e-commerce scenarios. Recent topics are the usage of product properties for computing recommendations as well as temporal phenomena as changing customer preferences and assortments under drift.
Learning Attribute-Aware Recommender Systems
(June 2004 - October 2006; funded by Eliteförderprogramm für Postdoktorandinnen und
Postdoktoranden der Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg):
This research project investigates the learning of predictive models in the context of recommender systems. Data Mining / Machine Learning techniques are used to analyze the complex and extensive amount of data acquired for the learning process.
Contact: Karen Tso M.Sc.
Erstausstattung Juniorprofessur
(October 2003 - September 2006; funded by BMBF).
In this project methods for content mining, especially, text and multimedia mining, and learning of user preferences are researched.
SemIPort
(since July 2003;
Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal
Description Methods (AIFB), University of Karlsruhe, Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer):
In SemIPort we investigate and develop semantic technologies for building and managing internet portals. The affiliated project Fachinformationssystem Informatik (FIS-I) makes use of the SemIPort technologies for running the computer sciene bibiography portal io-port.
Karlsruhe internet based management education (KAIMAN) /
Virtual University Oberrhein (VIROR)
(February 1999 - June 2003;
Institute of Decision Theory and Management Science,
University of Karlsruhe,
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gaul):
The project aimed at the developement and evaluation of web based e-learning modules with content from the fields of data mining, multivariate statistics, and operations research. Furthermore, we teached several tele-courses (on web mining, e-commerce, e-business) together with Lehrstuhl für Wirtschaftsinformatik III, University of Mannheim, Prof. Dr. Dr. Martin Schader.
