Zukunftslabor (FutureLab) Society and Labor

The Centrum for digital Innovations in Lower Saxony (ZDIN) serves as a platform to share knowledge, connect resources and promote synergies in the field. This way productive partnerships and collaborative projects can arise.

"[...] We would like to use the opportunities of digitilisation to create spaces for creation, minimize taxing labor and find new areas of work. Quality of life and profitability are not meant to be competing concepts for this project.“ - Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Nejdl, Leibniz Universität Hannover

The sub project "Artifical Intelligence and Organisational Processes" studies the possible improvements to organisational and work processes. Topics of research are the explainability of actions or decisions taken by an intelligent system with the purpose of ensuring fairness and reducing discrimination in the deployment of such systems.
Beside technical aspects, this sub project studies the impacts of automated decision processes in terms of behavioral economics, sociology of work and organizational theory to incorporate these concepts into the design of intelligent systems. Primarily, we are trying to answer the following questions: "How should an intelligent system 'look like' or 'react'?", "What behavioural expectations need to be considered during design?", "Who is responsible for the decisions and actions of an intelligent system?". For this, a legal framework needs to be created.
